Biography
Mr Ernest Onyema graduated from medical school in 1985 at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria and has completed his speciality training in ophthalmology in the UK. He did a clinical glaucoma service fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, and has over 30 years’ experience working as an consultant ophthalmologist, and over nine years’ experience at a at consultant level. Mr Onyema has a special interest in cataract surgery, glaucoma treatment with a focus on primary care development and electronic integration with secondary care and occulo-plastic surgery.
Mr Onyema is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh, and a member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists London, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, British Medical Association and the Medical Defence Union. He is also the medical liaison officer for the Royal Medical Benevolence Fund, a trustee of the Harlow Citizens Advice Bureau and a UK Trustee of the GEANCO Foundation.
Mr Onyema joined the ophthalmology teams at Practice Plus Group Hospital, Ilford and Practice Plus Group Surgical Centre, Gillingham in 2014 and has been an active member of the hospital since; Mr Onyema is the clinical lead for ophthalmology across both the Ilford and Gillingham sites.
